The Age of Stupid Dunedin Premiere

August 17, 2009

I just received the following information about The Age of Stupid:

We invite you to attend the Dunedin launch of the film Age of Stupid at Hoyts – 6.30pm on Thursday 20th August. The NZ release of this film could hardly be more timely with the lead-up to the Copenhagen climate change negotiations and our Government’s embarrassing position in offering 10-20% emission reductions but asking other countries to find ways of acheiving 30-40%.

Age of Stupid is the UK documentary-drama about climate change effects, starring Pete Postlethwaite as a researcher in 2055 who looks back on situations and scenarios and considers how the worst effects could have been averted had we not been so stupid. It has taken four years to produce (one of the producers is Lizzie Gillett – ex Dunedin) and has been made on a low-emission budget throughout.

The film’s Australasian premiere is next Wednesday (with a green carpet, celebs and solar powered marquee).  It opens in Dunedin the follwing day and runs for a week – with screenings at 6.30 and 8.30pm. Councillor Dave Cull will speak before the first screening and Lizzie Gillett will do a Question and Answer session at 8.30pm screenings on Friday and Saturday.

You can purchase tickets here.
